Simply combine the pieces of leftover soap in microwave safe dish and watch closely. Only takes about 15-20 seconds. Be sure you are wearing protective gloves because it gets very hot. Take out and ball the soft soap into a ball or whatever and place on piece of wax paper and pop into freezer for a few hours. You have your bar of soap. I do this with very expensive soaps I buy because they smell so good and are great for your skin and unlike just regular soap you can buy anywhere these are worth saving.

You can grate them and put them in a pan with some water and heat slowy until it turns into a mashed potato mixture. You can then form them into balls or place in a mold.

if you shave it and mix it with some boiling water that will make some liquid soap. Also if you have some fresh rosemary around you can boil the rosemary and then add the soap for a shampoo (works with essential oils)

I don't know of any way to melt them down, and re-mold them, but if you soaked them in a pan with a small amount of hot water, you would think it would liquefy and then you might pour the mixture into a pump bottle if it would stay liquefied. One other way to use them is to wrap them in a piece of mesh net and tie or sew together, then use as a shower or bath scrubber. If he's been saving these for some time, they may be very hard by now and not be usable at all. If you have a Walgreen's Drug near you, they have sales occasionally for good bar soap for $.25 each. With a price like that, who should need to save them.

You can put several chunks in the toe of a nylon stocking, tie a knot in it. I don't know if you can melt them and mold them into new bars of soap.
